Canvey Island
One of the key parts of 'Codd Palace' is the relationship between Ken and his Dad Stan, dominated by Stan's obsession with Laurel & Hardy. To illustrate the depths of his obsession we had to find the perfect location. Through Craig and Jeffrey's contacts in the Laurel & Hardy Fan Club, we found the perfect house, full 'to the rafters' of fabulous memorabilia.
We spent two days filming our Pilot film 'Simply Ken' in Canvey Island and the resulting footage was excellent. A huge thanks to Paul & Janet Allen for their help and hospitality.
Head of Steam - Sheffield
The relationship between Ken and his Daughter is central to the story of 'Codd Palace' and we had to find two Pubs in which they could meet in the Pilot 'Simply Ken'. The first one needed to be somewhere they could eat and we found the perfect location in Sheffield branch of 'The Head of Steam'. We had great fun the Sunday morning they allowed us to film there and the resulting footage was perfect.
Thanks very much to Chris Rayner and James Shaw for their superb hospitality. They did an amazing job hosting the Preview in May, it was a brilliant night, in this fabulous venue!
Wath Tap - Wath-upon-Dearne
For the second Pub, we needed a smaller, more intimate Real-ale establishment and we found the perfect place in Wath-Upon-Dearne. In the post-filming interview with Rhys and Craig, they both pronounced it to be their favourite location; where the story really came to life.
Thanks very much to Mel Swanwick and Roy Lomax for their amazing hospitality, it was fabulous to see Mel and some of her team at the Preview.
Sandygate - Wath-upon-Dearne
The main discussion between Ken and Gwendolyn needed to carry on outside the Pub and we found the perfect location, just around the corner from the Wath Tap. The village is known locally as 'The Queen of Villages' and with good reason, it's a beautiful place. Sandygate features some of the most beautiful buildings and looks amazing 'on camera'.
We had a few interruptions, including a very microphone-unfriendly 'Wheelie Bin' Cleaning service, but managed come away with some fabulous footage.
Foxhill - Sheffield
Another important part of 'Codd Palace' and especially the Pilot 'Simply Ken', is Gwendolyn's relationship with her Boyfriend Tom and Ken's reaction to it. We needed 'Student accommodation' and part of our crew provided their own house. The footage inside and out was perfect, despite the awful weather!
A big thanks to Jak Coates, Jessica Tomlinson and Josh Foster for their excellent hospitality.
