- Laurel & Hardy
Laurel and Hardy were a hugely successful Comedy act, during the early era of American cinema. The duo consisted of Englishman (from Ulverston) Stan Laurel and American Oliver Hardy (from Harlem, Georgia).
They began their career as a duo in the silent film era and then successfully transitioned to “Talkies". From the late 1920s to the mid-1950s, they were internationally famous for their hilarious slapstick comedy, with Stan playing the clumsy and childlike friend to Oliver's pompous bully.
Their signature theme song, known as 'The Cuckoo Song' or 'The Dance of the Cuckoos' was heard over their films' opening credits and became as synonymous as their twin Bowler Hats.
