A misanthropic, selfish, self-absorbed and competitive Mother & Daughter are bound together through blood and financial co-dependence. Delighted by the misfortunes and mis-adventures of others, they revel in their perceived superiority, whilst taking advantage of lawlessness and creating chaos wherever they go. In their minds, the World revolves around Irene & Karen.
Focusing on inter-generational conflict, ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ is the Pilot of a six-part series of 30 minute episodes. It’s a funny and relatable series about the threads which bind this family together.
In each episode, Irene & Karen deal with the consequences of their own selfish actions. Featuring sharp dialogue with physical Comedy, the series takes us along with them, in their search for their own version of happiness.
Irene (played by Rita May) is the Matriarch of the family. She loves her Daughter, is very protective, but is easily manipulated and used by her.
She is naive, deluded, selfish and has a heightened sense of self-importance. She is forgetful, a fantasist, nosey, critical and loves to wind people up.
Irene is also quick to judge and this leads to several incidents.
Karen (played by Ann Modiri) is Irene’s only Daughter and has been 'spoiled' all her life. She still lives with her Mother, who does everything for her; provides her with a home, food and finances her lifestyle, by providing access to Benefits.
She is self-possessed and incredibly selfish. She has inherited her Mother’s mercenary and opportunist tendencies, she fervently believes that every man is attracted to her.
